I am extremely alarmed at the emails I am getting from this site advocating a Constitutional Convention... I cannot think of a more dangerous political environment with the most corrupt representatives and the highest level of ignorance in our populous...

Is someone here smoking something other than tobacco?

Why should you be alarmed that the website is advocating that we follow the Constitution and do what the Framers of the Constitution mandated in Article V. The Constitution has been violated by the Legislative, Executive and Judicial Branches of government and that is precisely why the government that was created to protect our rights has become the usurper of those rights.

The states created the national government and in the Constitution the framers guaranteed that the states would have the authority to propose amendments to the Constitution if two-thirds of the states requested a convention for that purpose.

The Constitution can not protect us if we don't defend it. By allowing Congress to pick and choose when they will obey the Constitution and when they will not, we are giving them the authority to veto the Constitution whenever they feel like it.

If you believe in the Constitution it is hypocritical to accept portions of it while rejecting the provisions in Article V.

The Constitution was written to protect the liberty of the people. Their is a price that we must be willing to pay to be free. The founding fathers were willing to risk everything for the opportunity to be free. Now you are suggesting that we surrender to the corrupt national government because opposing tyranny would be potentially dangerous. We do not deserve the right to live in the land of the free if we are unwilling to be brave.

My alarm doesn't come as a result of your advocating what the framers mandated, they gave us more than one option for amending the Constitution; a Convention is not something that is mandated. The reason for my alarm is more related to what I perceive to be political naiveté, denial of the obvious, or collusion with the enemies of the republic.

Our problem with the Federal Government at this time doesn't stem necessarily from what's contained in the Constitution but compliance with it. We currently have a foreign usurper exercising power unlawfully, a Congress that is contemptuous of ANY limitation on what it perceives as its power, and a Court consisting of political appointees dating back to the Carter Administration... judges and justices that have similar views of government power to Congress and the President.

I received another statement that indicated that Thomas Jefferson was referring to a convention when speaking about rebellion... I find this to be absolutely ludicrous! Jefferson was referring to our ENFORCING the limitations of the Constitution through force of arms, not putting our liberty up for grabs in a Convention every 20 years!

Our people have tolerated things they shouldn't by government for too long. There is no power granted on a Federal level to stick their noses into education, land management within the Several States, deciding what food we should eat, how we utilize our resources within our state borders, what crops we grow or not, and many other activities that are currently being regulated and controlled at the federal level... and yet we continue to comply as if they did.

We, as a people, must force our servants in Washington to obey the Constitution. When our servants in the Federal Government fail to obey their oaths and violate the Constitution they are usurping the power of the states and the people; a Convention will change nothing to change that usurpation, even if it remains limited in scope to amending the Constitution. Government isn't obeying the current provisions... What makes you think that they'll miraculously begin obeying any new ones?

The only Constitution that government will ever obey without enforcement from the people grants them unlimited power over the people, setting government up as god. If that is your purpose in calling forth a Convention then you'll be highly successful in reforming the Constitution, make a lot of government officials very happy and willing to comply with the results; otherwise you will find there is nothing that will compel government to adhere to limitations on its power without the threat of force to keep it in line.

The second amendment recognizes our Right of defense against runaway government; the explanatory clause states as much.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Only by restoring the representation of the States in the Senate and then forcing the Federal Government back behind the limitations of the current Constitution will we regain what we’ve lost.

Mick, I quote your following remarks"My alarm doesn't come as a result of your advocating what the framers mandated, they gave us more than one option for amending the Constitution; a Convention is not something that is mandated. The reason for my alarm is more related to what I perceive to be political naiveté, denial of the obvious, or collusion with the enemies of the republic"

In Article V it states that a Convention to amend the Constitution is required when two-thirds of the states request one. All 50 states have requested a convention and Congress can not obey the provisions of Article V and not call for a Convention.

The Supreme Court is a de facto Convention consisting of nine lawyers that amend the Constitution every time they make a ruling that changes the Constitutional intent of the Founding Fathers. Congress can not change the Constitution without the support of the three-fourths of the states, but the Supreme Court can vote 5 to 4 and change virtually anything they want.

It is far more dangerous to allow Congress, the President and the Supreme Court to continue usurping power from the people that are supposed to be sovereign.

Where are you getting the data that all 50 states have called for a Convention? You still have not addressed my point regarding obedience to the Constitution. I see a lot of hand-wringing over the unwillingness of the Federal Government to obey the Constitution in all three branches but have not seen a damn thing that will explain how a Convention will remedy that problem.

How is a Convention going to stop the Federal Government from usurping power? They are not obeying the Constitution... We must force them to obey the Constitution not give them the means to replace it!

Restore State representation in the Senate by repudiating the 17th amendment due to the fraud used to impose it on us, reverse as much of the effects of the fraud as possible, and replace the judiciary with judges confirmed by a lawfully assembled Senate.

I will never support a Convention and believe sincerely that there will be open warfare if one should ever be convened. We will lose the work and the liberty guaranteed by the first one to the hopelessly corrupt and ignorant politicians of this age; I for one will die before submitting to it.
